What surprises me is that being or behaving uncouth by people is totally acceptable here. And am not even talking about the local shop vendors or the auto-rickshaw drivers here, I am referring to the so called 'educated' and 'classy' people.
If the people from north want to pass off this attitude with their 'class', money or influence, people here in south want to hide it by saying words like 'knowledge', 'religion' or 'culture'. They would put up several pictures of all the deities known in mythology, and do all rituals known and then invent some more but when it comes to treating a fellow human they somehow don't care. I am not even expecting feelings like compassion, all am asking is cant they be just a bit considerate? I do not know any religion that does not preach this but I guess they seem to conveniently miss that chapter.
People like to attach their educational qualifications with their name be it on their wedding invitation
or their house name-plate but it seems they have somehow missed the point, it is just education and not knowledge what they have acquired.
Well the outcome is that the people who chose to behave civilized are at loss. They do not want to get involved in any sort of ugliness and also they don't want to behave uncivilized or uncouth to get their way. They tend to get bullied to compromise on various levels. Right from mundane things like taking an auto, driving, parking to life defining things like working. Is it just? Is it that they are paying a prize for being civilized?
